Hi there! I'm Jake.
I am building SaaS infrastructure for pay-per-commit (a la pay-as-you-go) software development work. We give contract developers a checking account/debit card (embedded neobank), and provide employers with tools to manage billing and payments for work their developers do.
Engineers write code, use magic phrases in their commit message to log time, and their account is credited instantly for their contribution as they check code in Git, and the funds are available immediately in their Committer cash account. Nothing to install; we extract all we need from Git as work happens.
Employers gain instant visibility into engineering work via code metrics, reports, real-time insights, and access to auto-magic elastic payroll.
Initially, we are building infrastructure for the 500,000 U.S.-based contract software engineers that are manually logging their hours in timesheets, compiling timesheets into invoices, sending out invoices via email, and hoping their employers can audit, record, and pay their invoices on a timely basis. Imagine having to hire many contract software engineers; the amount of manual work you do grows with the number of engineers you hire.
We are automating mundane, repetitive tasks so teams can focus on the work that really matters.
It's called Committer.
I'm looking to bring on a technical and/or business ("go-to-market") cofounder.
If you want to learn more about Committer and you are based in San Francisco Bay Area, please reach out.
Or, if you know someone who'd be good fit, I'd truly appreciate an intro to anyone in your network who may be interested.
I work and live in downtown San Francisco. But I can meet you over coffee anywhere in the Bay Area. I will show up with a high fidelity prototype I made in Figma, and expect to have a brutally honest discussion about the idea and the prospects of us working together to build a company.
My personality archetype is The Spaher. That being said, I have a collaborative, honest, laid-back working style.
It is hard to assess someone's work ethic, desire to win, commitment, learning curve etc without actually working with them. But...below I believe is the bare minimum needed to make ours a successful partnership.
Me:
- live in San Francisco;
- can pitch anything;
- have bias towards action;
- work extremely hard and have massive learning rate; can find, exploit, and sustain technical advantage; wrote a patent application with no prior experience in drafting patents;
- full-stack engineer in the truest sense of the term (Frontend, Backend, Mobile, AI/ML, MLOps, DevOps, Distributed Systems, Build Systems, Platform);
- have many years of experience in UI/UX/DX design; can rapidly create high fidelity wireframes;
- love creating interactive UI animations using spring physics;
- can build, teams and code, from small to large. I led the effort to build and launch many software products from zero to one — in industries ranging from fintech, future of work, legal tech, edtech and social media;
- Love cross-pollinating ideas across different fields;
- my long-term role is CEO unless you have a proven record of execution and performance - in that case, I'm willing to move out of your way and support you however I can;
- value people and bits, quality and speed, and ultimately motivated by mission;
- excited to aim big and start something new;
- love to mentor; taught my spouse, with no prior experience in software development, how to code and build products. She is currently an engineering lead at Netflix. I also coach other engineers who had similar success stories.
You:
- live in San Francisco/Bay Area and plan to stay (here's why);
- have bias towards action;
- are technical—as in you can write production-ready JavaScript code and have a good mathematical intuition — OR — are strong in B2B SaaS sales preferably with a network;
- excel at written communication, oral communication, team-building, leadership, and organizational skills;
- work hard;
- are ruthless about moving the company forward;
- understand that overnight success typically takes about 5 to 10 years;
- are self-confident and have the confidence to influence and lead a team;
- are not an a**hole;
- are excited about many disciplines and are extraordinary at one;
- identify as an extrovert;
- no addiction to video games, alcohol, or drugs;
- watch **every single** video Y Combinator posts on their YouTube channel.
Bonus Points:
- You drive a Cybertruck, or you want to;
- Your X (aka Twitter) game is fire;
- Work-life balance is the least of your concerns;
- You believe in meritocracy;
- You write a blog;
- If you're technical, you get what this guy's saying;
- You've read Play Bigger and align with the goal of becoming a category king;
- You enjoy hiring/working with people better than you are;
- You contribute to Open Source;
- You act on a vision of what can be. Money isn't your biggest motivator;
- Company culture and the team are the most important to you—more so than the product;
- You snowboard (skiing is alright—lame but alright);
- You're a coffee person.
If you've read this far, you should definitely say hi.
Looking forward to the conversation!
